Saint Amand-Montrond, some snapshots of the old town

As with any town in France, no matter how large or small, the best way to have a real nose around and get a feel for the place is to dump the car as soon as possible and walk away from the busier shopping streets.

As Saint Amand-Montrond isn't exactly enormous, you'll soon find yourself in the old town, where you can take in its centuries of history at your own pace, or simply "chill out" in a local café.

Just remember, don't tell too many people about the charms of the town, but just enough to keep tourism ticking over nicely.
